Battling Environmental Racism
In November 2020, Friends of the Parks and its allies voiced disapproval of a Chicago plan to move a pollution-spewing scrap-iron facility from the city’s predominantly white North Side to a mostly Black and Brown neighborhood. Thinkinc. helped Friends of the Parks craft a strategic op-ed and powerful letter to the editor and placed them in the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, respectively. The pieces called on officials to pause and develop a comprehensive environmental justice plan that echoed Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s own words before she took office. Creating change is about more than demanding justice. It also involves proposing workable paths toward justice.
